In Kenya, two primary infrastructure sectors drive the construction industry: transportation and building/housing. The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure is in charge of road, aviation, maritime, rail, housing, and urban development policy initiatives and actions. Kenya National Highways Authority, Kenya Roads Board, Kenya Rural Roads Authority, Kenya Urban Roads Authority, Kenya Ports Authority, Kenya Railways Corporation, Kenya Airports Authority, Kenya Civil Aviation Authority, National Transport Safety Agency, and National Construction Authority are among the Ministry’s key government agencies. According to Business Monitor International (BMI), COVID 19 caused a decline in the Kenyan construction industry in 2020 and 2021. In the medium term, however, the sector is likely to shake off the impacts of the COVID 19 pandemic and grow. Large infrastructure developments in roads, ports, and airports will drive this growth in 2022 and beyond. In 2018, the GOK unveiled the ‘Big Four’ development program, which intends to solve challenges such as affordable housing, universal healthcare, increasing manufacturing, and food security. The GOK’s goal for affordable housing is to develop 500,000 homes over the next five years, which will help to address the country’s housing need. To achieve this goal, the GOK is seeking partnerships with the commercial sector. Gambari Group is proud to be part of this agenda to empower our fellow Kenyans.
